The Chainsmokers are a red-hot progressive house, electro house and EDM duo that were initially founded in 2012 in New York City. The DJ realm has been incredibly popular in the last decade or so as fans increasingly seek the rare escape that comes with packing a concert hall and letting sound take over.
The duo is comprised of Drew Taggart and Alex Paul. The two are new enough to not have Wikipedia pages as of press time. That is likely to change soon. Taggart was born in the mid-80s to a mother who served as a housewife and a father who made a living as an art broker. Taggart was born on the final day of the 1980s (December 31, 1989). While visiting Argentina as a teenager, he was initially turned on to the inherent power and spirit of great house music.
In 2014, The Chainsmokers released #Sophie, and it climbed as high as #16 on the US Billboard charts. It registered at #11 in the United Kingdom and #3 in Australia. The ranking in Australia was a clear indication that the band had traction and a future, as the Land Down Under has unofficially become a barometer for global success and house music.
"Roses" was their next single, and it continued to pave the path for the group headed toward major success and recognition. 2016's "Closer" rocketed to the top of the Billboard charts in 10 of the most Billboard-relevant countries around the globe. It stayed there for 12 weeks on the American charts and a number of weeks in places such as the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, France, Denmark, New Zealand, Sweden and the Netherlands.
All these countries have a huge following of fans interested in purchasing tickets and attending house dance parties.
2016 was a huge year for the group for a number of reasons, and the amount of awards they were nominated for is far too many to list. Accolades reigned in from the American Music Awards, the MTV Video Music Awards, the Billboard Music Awards and the People’s Choice Awards. The group won and was able to hoist shiny trophies for Favorite Electronic/Dance Music Artist by the AMA and the Best New DJ at a lesser-known yet reputable Music Awards.
The future is insanely bright for The Chainsmokers, who will premiere their first studio album in 2017 and embark on gigantic tour that will take them in front of fans throughout the nation. The group has approximately 3 dozen known mixed songs that they have been playing for fans, and tracks on the album released in early-April are obviously going to provide much more fodder for pulse-pounding live performances. By the time 2017 comes to a close, The Chainsmokers will have officially cemented their place at the very top of the house and DJ music realms
