Kings of Leon are a modern-day sensation in the realms of alternative rock, pop rock and southern rock. Formed in Nashville, Tennessee in the final year of the 20th century, they have used their talents to steadily march to the top of the global music scene. An upcoming tour will be the first in a few years. Nashville is a city that many hopeful musicians – especially rock musicians and country hopefuls – visit at some point in the early stages of becoming a superstar. As is the case for Kings of Leon, it was a family affair.
Three brothers from a tight-knit family with a Pentecostal preacher at the helm merged with one of their cousins in order to create the group. The family lived a life that was essentially at the influence of their preacher father, who traveled on a weekly basis throughout Tennessee and the surrounding states. He did so behind the wheel of a 1988 Oldsmobile, which proved to be a cohesive element for the brothers as they experienced a childhood full of interesting experiences.
By the time 2006 came around, the managers and investors behind the group were interested in seeing how high they could officially fly. They had released an album in the United Kingdom in 2004, and they opted to release their 2007 album in the United Kingdom before doing so in the United States on the following day.
It was the third studio album in total, and although it peaked at #1 in the United Kingdom and New Zealand, it only reached #25 on United States Billboard charts.
Much like the hoofprints of many great bands who toiled in virtual mediocrity before striking it big, Kings of Leon have seen their recent records catapult to the top of the Billboard charts almost immediately. Come Around Sundown, released in mid-October 2010, reached #1 in eight major nations that feature Billboard charts.
Their most recent release came in 2016 of last year, and it immediately shot to the top of the United Kingdom Billboard charts and the United States charts, as well as those in Canada and Ireland.
In addition to the four Followills, a small handful of touring members that handle accompanying instruments such as the piano, keyboard and rhythm guitar join the group during each of their live performances.
KoL has toured in a large variety of cities in North America, and several dozen major epicenters of entertainment on foreign lands. The upcoming leg of their current North American tour will begin in late-April in Southern California. It will run through late-August, where it concludes on the West Coast at the famous Gorge Amphitheater in Quincy, Washington. During the three magical Spring and Summer months in between, the tour will play an abundance of shows along the Eastern Seaboard, from Virginia Beach, Virginia to Mansfield, Massachusetts
